Art Class

Like with the reading classes, the art classes that LLI provides are the only opportunity most of these kids will get to create art. And they love it. It’s tough to think of things like crayons, markers, colored pencils and paper as being some special luxury, but here, they are. It’s not that these things aren’t available but it’s about the cost in a place where the emphasis is more on getting by day to day with the basics. But you can see a whole different light getting turned on in these kids when they have this chance for unrestricted creativity. I wanted to get more pictures of the art they completed but when they’re done they tend to grab their work and run out the door. It looks like they might be excited to show someone at home what they’ve done.

I showed them how to get their hands into it by smudging, smearing and blending
