I arrived in Lima yesterday very early, like 3:30am. I had a two-hour layover, but the time changed and I missed my flight to Cusco. There was another flight a couple hours later and I would soon be very grateful for missing the first one. If I had taken the original flight I would have flown to Cusco in the dark. But because of the later flight, the sun was coming up on the Andes mountains as we flew over them and it was the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. A dream I’d had since I was in the fifth grade of seeing these mountains for myself after seeing them in a textbook was made real. My face was in the window for the whole hour of the flight.
